This course investigates key contemporary theoretical approaches in Sociology. To help students evaluate their relative strengths and weaknesses, they are asked to see their own sociological investigation (thesis) from a different theoretical lens every week under the guidance of the lecturer.

Indicative Assessment
Weekly task of 500 words, running for 9 weeks (5% each for a total of 45%) LO 1-4
Each task will reflect on the readings/topic of the week in
3 parts:
- what are the concepts and concerns of the readings?
- how different/useful are they? And
- how can I apply it to my topic?
Feedback on these weekly exercises will ideally be provided after 2 weeks.
Final essay (due in November) 5,500 words (55%) LO 1-4
The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. Workload
A 1 hour lecture and 2 hour seminar per week for 13 weeks. Students are expected to undertake a further 17 hours of independent study, research and assessment per week during the semester (total 260 hours).
