This course offers an introduction to Cantonese with an emphasis mainly on communicative ability and partly on comparison with Modern Standard Chinese. It is for students who have no or very limited prior knowledge of Cantonese language and may not be able to read Cantonese phonetics. At this level, students will study Cantonese pronunciation and how to initiate or respond to basic conversations in Cantonese in daily activities such as greetings, introductions, eating in and eating out.

2. Demonstrate listening skills in Cantonese in professional contexts;
