Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:

1. understand and evaluate historical and current events and developments that have shaped Latin America, especially the interaction between the indigenous societies of the region and European societies;
2. identify and critique one of more of the contemporary socio-cultural and political systems of Latin America including with reference to theories of development and underdevelopment;
3. analyse the global significance of events and developments in Latin America; and
   
4. demonstrate an introductory knowledge of either Spanish or Portuguese, or both.

Requirements

This major requires the completion of 48 units from courses on the following lists, which must include:

A maximum of 12 units of 1000-level courses
A minimum of 6 units of 3000-level courses

A minimum of 12 units must come from completion of courses from the following list:

1000 level course in:
