Contemporary Music Production Minor

The Contemporary Music Production minor equips students with skills and knowledge in blended recording and composition practice. It fosters practical experience in diverse production environments, from Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) to world-class large recording studio facilities in the School of Music. This minor also supports students in following their passion for their chosen contemporary genres which may include popular music in its myriad of forms, jazz, classical and global music. It will also challenge students to incorporate emergent techniques and technologies into their creative practice. Through blending solo and collaborative practice, the minor emphasizes developing interpersonal and ethical practices to prepare students for professional work in music communities.

Learning Outcomes

  1. create music works that demonstrate skills in contemporary music production practice;
  2. demonstrate appropriate interpersonal and communication skills involved in collaborative contemporary music production;
  3. critically reflect on the historical, theoretical, and cultural dimensions of contemporary music production practice; and
  4. analyse the techniques and approaches used in contemporary music production.

Requirements

This minor requires the completion of 24 units, which must include:


18 units from completion of the following compulsory courses:

MUSI1110 Introduction to Music Technology

MUSI2230 Songwriting: Concepts and Craft

MUSI2209 Music Recording and Production Techniques

 

6 units from completion of a course from the following list:

MUSI3317 Popular Music Studies

MUSI3309 Music and Digital Media

MUSI3327 Ethnomusicology
