Human Security Law Specialisation

As the world's population nears 8 billion and the demand for resources increases, there is a need to understand the consequences of climate change, environmental and other natural disasters, conflict, pandemics, automation, under-developed economies, human rights breaches, and corruption. This specialisation will equip lawyers, professionals and policy-makers with the skills to assess critically topics that will explore these issues from a legal, regulatory and policy perspective.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Develop and apply specialist legal knowledge to critically analyse complex human security problems, concepts and theories, incorporating social, comparative or transdisciplinary approaches. (PLO 1,4)
  2. Research, evaluate, and synthesise case law, legislation, and scholarly writings to develop solutions to human security problems. (PLO 2,3,5)
  3. Critically reflect on and communicate theoretical, policy and practical information and issues in human security to legal and non-legal audiences. (PLO 6,7)
