The Law Research specialisation is designed for postgraduate law students seeking advanced training in legal research, methodology and scholarly writing.
It develops high-level research capability, including the formulation of research questions, critical engagement with legal theory, and the synthesis of case law, legislation and scholarly literature. Through advanced research methods study and an independent dissertation, students develop the skills to plan, undertake and communicate substantial legal research.
The specialisation is particularly suited to students intending to pursue research-intensive professional roles, doctoral study, or careers involving policy development, law reform or academic inquiry.
Learning Outcomes
- Evaluate and independently apply advanced legal research methods and approaches to investigate complex legal questions and communicate research findings effectively.
- Critically analyse and synthesise complex case law, legislation and scholarly literature to construct cohesive legal arguments and propose well-reasoned solutions to complex legal problems.
