This course introduces students to economic principles and frameworks necessary for effective policy analysis. Students apply these principles and frameworks across different stages in the policy process. The course is applied and taught using case studies and contemporary policy examples.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the contemporary economic role of governments in society
- Demonstrate an understanding of the key economic principles needed for effective policy analysis
- Apply key economic principles to real-world policy examples
- Present well-researched, clearly written and cogently developed analysis of economic issues during the policy process

Workload
130 hours of total student learning time made up from:
a) 36 hours of contact over 12 weeks: 24 hours of lectures and 12 hours of workshop and workshop-like activities
b) 94 hours of independent student research, reading and writing.
