This course continues with the development of listening and reading comprehension skills and of oral and written communication in German. This includes an extension of basic German grammar and vocabulary, and training in and reflection on language learning strategies.
The course also focuses on the analysis of short literary and non literary texts - appropriate to the language level - about life and culture in German-speaking societies, and towards the end of the course, students will conduct a small video-based research project. Furthermore, it engages students in learning opportunities in the area of intercultural communication.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
- communicate in written and spoken German on most topics and current events;
- analyse the language systematically and reflect on linguistic structures;
- read short literary and non-literary texts and relate them to German-speaking cultures;
- demonstrate increasing understanding of contemporary issues in the context of German-speaking societies; and
- demonstrate increasingly broad expertise in critical thinking by extracting, synthesising and analysing information from a variety of cultural texts and communicating their own reactions, opinions and arguments.

- Two In-class tests: listening and reading comprehension, grammar and vocabulary (1 hour each) (30) [LO 2,3,4]

Workload
130 hours of total student learning time made up from:
