Public Health Research Project Development (POPH8107)

In this course, students will develop a practical public health research project.  Each student will work with a supervisor who can offer expert guidance on the literature review and development of the research project. Students can work in pairs on their project if they wish.

We expect only a minority of students who take this course will go on to conduct the research project (eg as an elective in the MPH or a proposal for a PHD). Those not intending to actually conduct the research will develop a hypothetical project.

Students will cover the following topics:

•    Public health problem solving through research
•    Literature review
•    Phrasing research questions
•    Research project design and methodology
•    planning the analysis of results
•    research ethics

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. While the use of Turnitin is not mandatory, the ANU highly recommends Turnitin is used by both teaching staff and students. For additional information regarding Turnitin please visit the ANU Online website.
