Students will conduct a small research project, under supervision.  This will give them experience in research in an area of interest in computer science.  The activities in the course will normally include some combination of reading, writing, project work and presentation as appropriate to the topic.  The learning objectives, project overview and assessment arrangements will be specified at the outset using the Department of Computer Science form 'Independent Study Contract'.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:

  • able to survey related related literature,
  • able to write a summary report,
  • able to communicate the research results orally.

Indicative Assessment

The assessment arrangements will be specified at the outset using the Department of Computer Science form 'Independent Study Contract'.

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. While the use of Turnitin is not mandatory, the ANU highly recommends Turnitin is used by both teaching staff and students. As many hours as necessary for meetings with supervisors and a nominal 10 hours per week

Requisite and Incompatibility

To enrol in this course you must be studying a Bachelor of Philosphy or Bachelor of Computer Science(honours) or Bachelor of Advanced Computing(R&D) and have completed 12 units of 3000 level COMP courses.
