This course provides an introduction to the analysis and design of engineering systems. The emphasis is on non-discipline specific theory and methods that can be applied at a high level to the design and understanding of complex engineering systems. The course will cover concepts from systems theory and the engineering design process including methods of understanding and evaluating an engineering system's interaction with its environment and society. Principles from dynamic modeling, feedback, sensitivity analysis, and optimization will be used to design, understand, and analyze engineering systems. Students will apply theory and methods by participating in a high level, multi-disciplinary, complex design project.

This course can be studied for credit in the following programs:

  • Master of Engineering
  • Graduate Studies
  • and as an elective in other  programs.

Indicative Assessment

Assignments (25%) Quizzes (15%) Workshop participation (5%) Design Project (55%)

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. While the use of Turnitin is not mandatory, the ANU highly recommends Turnitin is used by both teaching staff and students. For additional information regarding Turnitin please visit the ANU Online website.
