By the conclusion of this course, students who have successfully completed all of the requirements will have the knowledge, skills and professional values to:1. Independently, and to a high professional standard appropriate to the chosen professional setting, identify, plan, manage and execute a substantive and original written research project addressing a complex problem.
2. Present the outcomes of this research to a specialist and non-specialist audiences, demonstrating persuasive and inclusive communications skills appropriate to the professional setting chosen.
3. Demonstrate integration and application of multiple areas of legal knowledge, skills and professional values gained in the JDO program through a report on the research project
4. Demonstrate ANU CoL JDO graduate attributes such as, but not limited to: an extended understanding of recent developments in law and its practice; high level research skills applicable to the discipline; high level conceptualisation; the ability to generate and evaluate complex ideas; legal technical and communication skills; and high level personal autonomy and accountability
5. Reflect on growing professional identity by identifying interests, goals and future learning plans.
Indicative Assessment
• A substantive piece of written research (5,000 words) suitable to the professional setting• An oral presentation showcasing the student’s research project suitable to the chosen professional setting
• A report identifying how the substantive research project integrates and builds upon knowledge, skills and professional values developed throughout the JD Online and demonstrates ANU College of Law JD Online graduate attributes.
The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. While the use of Turnitin is not mandatory, the ANU highly recommends Turnitin is used by both teaching staff and students. Workload
This is a 6 unit course. Students are expected to devote 10 – 15 hours per week over 13 weeks to studying in this course. This includes active online engagement and collaboration as well as independent, individual study.Requisite and Incompatibility
