Students in this course carry out and write up an advanced piece of research on a question of their choice. The research topic is agreed with their project supervisor and approved by the program convener. In this context, students execute a project to answer their research question, to place the answer in the context of an intellectual framework and to communicate it clearly to others. At the very minimum the project must be 12 units but can be up to 24 units. Students working towards progressing to a research degree or the Master of Clinical Psychology will need to take the 24 unit option.

  1. Pose a significant research question relating to their discipline;
  2. Investigate this question creatively, critically, ethically, and independently, including through sophisticated use of appropriate theory and methodology as appropriate to the discipline
  3. Place these investigations in the context of the relevant intellectual framework and
  4. Communicate their research and its findings through an appropriate medium.

Indicative Assessment

Assessment will be based on:
The project is the sole piece of assessment for this course; to successfully complete this course, it must demonstrate all learning outcomes for the course (LO 1-4).
The length of the report is a maximum of 10,000 words exclusive of footnotes, tables, figures, reference list and appendices. Its format may be suitable for publication as a research project.

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. While the use of Turnitin is not mandatory, the ANU highly recommends Turnitin is used by both teaching staff and students. Workload

A total of 130 hours student learning time per 6-unit load, including a minimum of 12 hours contact with the supervisor. It is the joint responsibility of the student and supervisor to arrange times for face-to-face contact.
