The overall aim of this course is to provide an understanding of the scientist-practitioner model and contemporary approaches to, and issues in, evidence-based psychological practice. After introducing students to the history and foundation of the scientist-practitioner model, the course will discuss evidencebased assessment and intervention strategies across the fields of cognitive, developmental, health and clinical psychology.
Major topics will include:
• History, foundation and challenges of the scientist-practitioner model.
• Intellectual and personality assessment: evidence-based strategies and empirical analysis.
• Developmental assessment.
• Principles of, and contemporary issues, in evidence-based psychological practice.
• Family-based intervention for child and adolescent psychopathology.
• Intervention models in clinical psychology: Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Acceptance and CommitmentTherapy.
• Health psychology intervention: Behavioural weight loss for obesity
• Evidence-based physical activity interventions for psychological problems

Indicative Assessment
Assessment will be based on:- Pop quizzes 20% (LO 1-3)
- Implementation research proposal 40% (LO 1-3)
- Final exam 40% LO 1-3
