This is a research-intensive course in which students undertake a self-directed research project under the guidance of a supervisor on a topic not covered in other INDG courses. The research topic is to be negotiated with the supervisor and must fall within the broad field of Indigenous studies. Time spent will focus on planning and conducting the piece of research, and on academic skills development including ethical practice.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
- explain basic research theory and practice as it applies to Indigenous studies topics;
- conduct independent research on a supervised topic, and present research issues and questions, methodologies and outcomes in written form; and
- engage in ethically-sound written research on topics related to Indigenous peoples.

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. Workload
130 hours of student learning time made up of:
a) 24 hours of contact: consultations and communication between supervisor and student
b) 106 hours of independent reading, research and writing.
