In this course students will become acquainted with the fundamental concepts of syntax and morphology, and will learn about a wide variety of sentence and word structures found across the world's languages. They will develop skills in syntactic analysis, applying them to a variety of languages, including languages of Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
- read and evaluate a range of literature about word and sentence structure;
- solve simple problems in grammatical analysis;
- undertake guided research in the grammatical structure of languages of different types;
- critically examine beliefs about language structure, diversity and linguistic equivalence; and
- communicate clearly and knowledgeably about language-related topics to academic and general audiences.

Workload
