Interstudio addresses conceptual and thematic issues through a seminar based course with studio-based results.  This course is designed for advanced students in Craft and Design to bring their own particular making skills and media-specific methods to respond to a common theme.  The Interstudio framework will foster contextualization and deepening of ones own practice while encouraging  interdisciplinary work in alternate media and providing opportunities for collaboration.  Lectures, presentations, site and studio visits are centered on specific themes, and address concepts relevant to contemporary practice in craft and design.  Students will design and make completed works in response to course topics.  Themes/Topics alternate.  Examples include: Feast/Banquet; Guerilla Outdoor Installation/Rejuvenation; Design for Climate Change; Small World.  Topics will be determined each year based on what is vibrant and pertinent at the time.

  2. Demonstrate increased capacity, through practice and independent learning,  in skills, techniques and methods within a particular media/process of their choice;

  4. Demonstrate ability to understand the relevance of the conceptual and theoretical contexts introduced through multiple craft and design disciplines as transferable to varied media;
  5. Produce finished works in response to the course theme/topic

Portfolio of studio work and visual journal (80%) [LOs 1 - 4]

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. While the use of Turnitin is not mandatory, the ANU highly recommends Turnitin is used by both teaching staff and students. Workload

4 hours per week lectures, tutorials, critiques and supervised studio practice and 6 hours per week independent studio practice.

Requisite and Incompatibility

To enrol in this course you must be studying a Bachelor of visual or design arts degree and have completed ARTV1101 OR ARTV1011 OR ARTV1201 OR ARTV1301 OR ARTV1401 OR ARTV1801 OR ARTV1901 OR DESA1001.
