The Honours course involves students in a two semester supervised Studio Research project(80%)which culminates in the presentation of a body of artwork. An accompanying Studio Report(20%) documents the development of the research and describes its theoretical framework. A critical approach to studio research is encouraged through Honours sessions, Workshop seminars, critiques and individual consultation. Studio and contextual research methods appropriate to individual projects provide an early focus for discussion and are developed over the length of the program.

1. create an imaginative and focused body of artworks by integrating studio and contextual investigation/research.

2. Select and combine materials and processes skillfully to give visual form to your ideas.

3. Critically reflect on your research project and explain your decision-making processes.

4. Identify and analyse relevant historical and contemporary practices and relate them to your own concerns.

Other Information

Requirements for enrolment in Visual Arts honours:

1. Completion of the requirements for the pass degree;
2. 48 units of Major study with normally a Distinction average in later year courses
3. A Research Proposal approved by the School of Art Committee or nominee.

Indicative Assessment

At the end of the program, students present a portfolio of studio work (80%) [LO’s 1, 2] and submit a 3 - 5000 wd exegesis which gives a detailed explanation of their project and provides a critical analysis of contextual issues (20%) [LO’s 3, 4].

 

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. While the use of Turnitin is not mandatory, the ANU highly recommends Turnitin is used by both teaching staff and students. Workload

Four hours lectures, tutorials and studio critiques, a 2 hour seminar and 22 hours of independent study per week.
