This is an upper-level course designed to introduce advanced students to a range of key writings in Chinese society. The course will provide training in the close reading of a variety of representative texts from differing periods of Chinese history
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
Understanding of key concepts and issues in Chinese society; to integrate this theoretical and historical knowledge with empirical examples; learn to think critically; develop skills in synthesising and contextualising new information; develop skills to locate, analyse, evaluate and synthesise information from a wide variety of sources, both Western and Chinese; develop an ability to work in cooperative groups on key issues in this field of Chinese Studies and to communicate findings to others; to develop a life-long interest and intellectual curiousity in this area.
