This course introduces students to a range of gender issues in sociology. It will explore the many dimensions of gender and argue that gender is a central category of social analysis, in a similar way to class, race and ethnicity with which it intersects with varied, specific results. The course will focus on the emergence of gender as an analytical tool in sociology, on the reproduction of gendered social agents and on the analysis of gendered ideologies. It will also examine the impact of gender and feminist deconstructionism in the sociology of knowledge.
