This course aims to develop advanced skills in kiln forming and advanced cold forming. Technical demonstrations and hands on courses are the main teaching method for these areas of glass working. Set projects include thematic and self-directed projects, and allow individual exploration of concepts and techniques aimed at experimentation and developing research methods. Lectures and group discussions extend students knowledge of themes and issues within current practice and assist build the ability to analyse and critique their own work and working methods. Occupational health and safety instruction is integrated throughout the syllabus.

  1. Competently utilise a range of intermediate and advanced kiln forming and cold working skills in response to set tasks
  2. Demonstrate an analytical approach to conceptualizing kiln formed and cold worked objects
  3. Experiment while integrating concepts and processes through self directed kiln forming and cold working projects
  4. Critically engage with historical and theoretical contexts as introduced through integrated glass studio theory

Indicative Assessment

Portfolio of studio work (80%) [LO 1, 2, 3]

and Journal/Documentation/Studio Theory presentation (20%) [LO 2, 3, 4].

Feedback on work in progress is provided during class and at mid semester review session. Final assessment will be based on presented completed works, journals, tests and models.

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. While the use of Turnitin is not mandatory, the ANU highly recommends Turnitin is used by both teaching staff and students. Workload

4 hours contact per week lectures, tutorials, critiques and supervised studio practice and 6 hours per week independent studio practice.
