On the successful completion of this course, students will be able to:- Demonstrate the reading skills necessary to identify, hypothesise on, and analyse new items of classical Chinese vocabulary and syntax.
- Produce literary translations from classical Chinese to English.
- Apply a broad knowledge of Chinese history and historiography to specific examples of historical narrative.
- Appraise items of historical narrative in classical Chinese.

Written tests during the semester (60%), Final exam (40%).
