Further intensive study of the language, to improve vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar, with a view to developing self-expression both in writing and speaking. Introduction to authentic short texts (literary and other) and further listening practice to enable students to deal with more everyday situations as well as to develop and share a critical understanding of French culture and society.

- Go beyond simple communication into more complex discussions;
- Communicate to others about the past, present and future (and report on what others have done or said);
- Compose short texts such as messages, invitations, instructions, reports, and material of a more fictional type;
- Understand extracts of news and films;
- Summarise a newspaper article or a short text;
- Read and understand short authentic texts (e.g. newspaper articles, extracts from books and novels, etc.) and poetry for enjoyment (not for detailed literary appreciation), and appreciate short cinematographic extracts;
- Appreciate aspects of contemporary French life and society.
- Be aware of differences and similarities between their first culture and French cultures;
- Understand grammatical concepts and aspects of language learning methodology.
Indicative Assessment
Two in-class listening comprehension tests (50 minutes): 10% and 15% (Learning Outcomes 1, 2, 4, 7, 8)
Two oral assessments (30-50 minutes): 10% and 15% (Learning Outcomes 1, 2, 6, 7)
Two in-class written tests (one 50 mins and one two hours): each 25% (Learning Outcomes 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9)
