The purpose of this course is to explore the inter-relationship between conflict and development and study the policy options for interventions during the conflict and then in the post-conflict phase. Over the past decade, most major armed conflicts in the world have taken place within, not between, existing states. These kinds of conflicts are a feature of many developing countries, especially in the Asia-Pacific region. The first half of the course will look at the causes and consequences of conflicts and the different pathways to resolution of conflicts. The second half of the course will focus on the development challenges in the post-conflict environment.

- Peacebuilding and Peacekeeping
- State and Institution Building in conflict and post-conflict environments
- Development policy options and challenges post-conflict
- Democracy and Conflict Management
Indicative Assessment
60% major assignment, 30% short assignment, 10% class participation
