Elementary Turkish A is designed for students who have no or very little prior knowledge of the language. The emphasis in this course, particularly those for Elementary Turkish, will be on drills, exercises and situational practice. All the lessons include exercises, reading passages and listening to tape. The students are encouraged to read some articles and books on Turkish Language and Culture written in English.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
The students at the end of this course (Elementary Turkish A) will be able to write simple short sentences in present, past and future tenses and read passages of moderate length.
GENERIC SKILLS
This course aims to cover Turkish alphabet, spelling and pronunciation as well as vowel harmony. No direct emphasis will be put on teaching grammar, but the use of simple verb tenses and other grammatical features will be introduced with sentences. The course will include simple and comprehensive reading passages.
And also aims:
- To further develop students' understanding of Turkish language and culture through reading passages in the prescribed text book.
- To develop students Turkish language skills (Turkish alphabet, spelling and pronunciation as well as vowel harmony)
- To enable students to read very simple comprehensive passages in Turkish and construct simple sentences.
Other Information
All the lessons include exercises, reading passages and listening to tapes. Students will have a work-book and glossary for their homework. The lecturer may provide reading passages whenever necessary. The students are encouraged to read some articles and books on Turkish Language and Culture written in English.

Students are required to attend language laboratory sessions and listen to the recordings on the WebCT (one hour a week) and hand in their Work Book for correction.
The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. While the use of Turnitin is not mandatory, the ANU highly recommends Turnitin is used by both teaching staff and students.
