A new program from 2015.

In disciplines as diverse as biology, economics, actuarial studies, psychology, physics, archaeology, medicine and information technology, there is always a need for qualified statisticians to make proper sense of the data. The Master of Statistics program will enable you to specialise in any of a large number of areas, as well as receive rigorous training in core statistical application and theory. This will set you up as a professional statistician whose services will be highly sought-after. With an ANU Master of Statistics you will excel in your career literally anywhere is the world. 

Single degree

This degree requires 96 units:

  • 48 units (8 courses) of initial component
  • 48 units (8 courses) of concluding component

About this degree

Students must achieve a minimum 60% weighted average mark in the initial component to continue to the concluding component.

Students who do not achieve a minimum of 60% weighted average mark in the initial component will be transferred to the Graduate Diploma of Finance Actuarial Studies and Applied Statistics


Enrolment Status

It is possible to enrol in fewer courses per semester but it will take you longer to finish your program and get your degree. If you are an international student you must always be enrolled full-time in 24 units each semester.

Remember you will need to enrol in courses for both First Semester and Second Semester.  You will be able to change your enrolment in courses up until the end of week 2 of each semester without penalty.

Electives

As prescribed. A maximum of 24 units from completion of 6000-level, 7000-level and 8000-level courses from the following subject areas: ACST, BUSN, ECON, EMET, FINM, MATH, STAT.

Students must discuss with Program Convener, Dr Bronwen Whiting for course selection.

Academic Advice

Before applying for any credit or exemption towards the program, students (except the ANU students) should include details of the ANU courses for which they seek for status on the form: http://www.anu.edu.au/sites/www.gaia-web1.anu.edu.au/files/resource/application-for-course-credit-st... They also are required to attach with the course outlines of their previous studies, or assessment of their qualification completed by any relevant professional bodies.

It is advisable that students discuss their course selection with the Program Convener, Dr Bronwen Whiting (Bronwen.whiting@anu.edu.au). Please ensure you take a copy of your academic transcript with you when you meet with Dr Whiting.She will available during the O week in her office (Room 4.31, Building 26C):
