This course introduces processes that extend the fundamental knowledge of glass blowing, kiln forming and cold working established in the previous semester, and encourages original exploration of theme-based projects. Through technical courses, students further develop their skills and awareness of the medium while developing individual responses to set tasks. Integrated studio theory lectures and group discussions extend students' awareness of historical and contemporary practice in the field of studio glass. Occupational health and safety instruction is integrated throughout the syllabus.

  1. Utilise a range of glass working skills, in response to Workshop projects
  2. Explore the potential of glass material/s used in Workshop projects through self directed material investigation
  3. Produce work which recognizes relationships between concept and processes in glass
  4. Engage with historical and theoretical contexts relevant to Glass Workshop projects

Indicative Assessment

Portfolio of studio work and visual journal (80%) and Documentation (20%). Assessment includes periodic critique and review sessionsthat provide ongoing feedback on work in progress.

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. While the use of Turnitin is not mandatory, the ANU highly recommends Turnitin is used by both teaching staff and students. Workload

4 hours per week of contact include technical instruction, lectures and group discussions. 6 hours per week independent studio practice.

Requisite and Incompatibility

To enrol in this course you must have successfully completed ARTV1301 or ARTV1011. You are not able to enrol in this course if you have previously completed ARTV1012 or DESA1002.
