Environment Studio 1 offers supervised environmentally-orientated field research and related studio development for students of the visual arts. Field research will take place in locations in and around Canberra and may concentrate on the formulation of ifdeas, the gathering of materials and visual imagery or the undertaking of site-specific work. Data gathered in the field informs the studio development of a folio of artwork.

Indicative Assessment
Portfolio of studio work (60%) [LOs 1-3]
Documentation (40%) [LOs 1, 3]: this could include visual diaries, field notes, preparatory sketches, photographs, video footage, etc
Assessment includes periodic critique and review sessions that provide ongoing feedback on work in progress.
The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. While the use of Turnitin is not mandatory, the ANU highly recommends Turnitin is used by both teaching staff and students. Workload
As intensive:
14 day intensive, including 5 day excursion, combining formal instruction and self-directed field work and studio practice. 52 contact hours plus pre- and post- field trip preparation/debriefing and studio time.
As semester-long course:
4 hours per week lectures, tutorials, critiques and self-directed field excursions plus 6 hours per week self-directed studio practice.

Assumed Knowledge
Some basic knowledge of visual arts processes such as drawing, painting, photography or video would be an advantage, but not essential. Recommended courses ARTV1020, ARTV1021, ARTV1022 or any visual arts electives offered by ANU School of Art.Fees
