This course requires each student to design and execute an individual project that utilises strong knowledge and understanding gained in previous furniture design courses.  Students are able to broadly address issues related to human interface with the near environment and/or to appropriate a range of processes/materials utilised in furniture production as relevant to their own design concepts.  Experimental studio based research aims to synthesise material exploration and ideas, informed by contemporary and/or historical precedents in the field. Independent exploration of relevant concepts, approaches, and works consolidates each student's knowledge of the contextual framework for their design project; critical reflection is further developed through discussion with staff and peers. Students will develop, complete and exhibit the finished outcomes of their proposals at the end of the semester. Occupational health and safety instruction is an integral part of this course.
