Winter Session 2015 - Engineering for a Humanitarian Context
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
Professional Skills Mapping:Mapping of Learning Outcomes to Assessment and Professional Competencies
Other Information
It is run as a 4-week intensive course (approximately June 23 -
July 24). The course will provide students with perspectives and
tools to sensitively and appropriately apply their engineering practice for
humanitarian contexts and development. It aims to expand students’ existing
engineering knowledge to work with vulnerable, disadvantaged and marginalised
individuals and communities in challenging and uncertain environments,
informing and improving their overall engineering practice. It is aimed
at 3rd and 4th year students with an interest in humanitarian engineering or
considering a research project in that area.
Students will have an opportunity to travel to and attend the Engineers Without Border Humanitarian Summit in Cambodia for a section of the course. Mandatory coursework will be completed prior to, during and following the summit. The summit is not a work experience unit and is supported by the course convenor and the College.
For Engineering students it will count as an ENGN elective or a general elective in the Bachelor of Engineering program. For Software Engineers it will count as a science/engineering/general elective. For all other computing degrees it will count as a general elective.
To enrol in this course, please email studentadmin.cecs@anu.edu.au for approval by the course convenor and a permission code to enroll into ENGN4520 (undergrad) or ENGN6520 (postgrad).
The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. While the use of Turnitin is not mandatory, the ANU highly recommends Turnitin is used by both teaching staff and students. For additional information regarding Turnitin please visit the ANU Online website.
