Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
At the end of the course students will be able to: discuss a number of social/ contemporary issues with restricted but tolerable fluency and range of language, understand main ideas in short slightly simplified written texts with some vocabulary help, identify main ideas in short authentic listening texts with some guidance, and write simple passages on social/contemporary issues with reasonable accuracy and range of language.
Two short in-class quizzes on core vocabulary from set reading texts (10%), one take-home short essay assignment (20%), one take-home translation assignment (15%), one take-home grammar assignment (10%), instructor’s ongoing assessment of class performance in Speaking & Listening activities, (20%), one oral presentation in class (20%), attendance (5%)
The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. While the use of Turnitin is not mandatory, the ANU highly recommends Turnitin is used by both teaching staff and students. • participation in a total of 15 hours of face-to- face classes
• 1.5 hours preparation (approx.) for each 1.5 hour long session
• three take-home written assignments (2 x approx. 400 words and 1 x approx 250 words)
• one oral presentation in class (7-10 minutes length).
