India has a deep and rich archaeological record reaching back some 300,000 or more years. India therefore provides a continuous narrative of human behavioural and cultural development in a single geographical region, providing the student with an understanding of how human populations, lifeways, and lifestyles can change over time in response to environmental and/or social changes. Students will gain an understanding of India's prehistory from initial arrival of human groups into the region to 1,000 years BP, as well as how material remains and archaeological interpretative methods have resulted in our current understanding of human interactions in this region.

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. While the use of Turnitin is not mandatory, the ANU highly recommends Turnitin is used by both teaching staff and students. For additional information regarding Turnitin please visit the ANU Online website.
