This course will enable students to undertake a project that uses creative practice -composition, performance, education, multimedia or other formats - to investigate a question of musical research. The project may be group-based or individual. Examples include: composition and performance of a music theatre work; research, composition, performance or recording of classical, jazz and contemporary works; rehearsal and performance of an historically performed early music piece; development and trialling of teaching practice and materials; or a participation / observation project with a practising music specialist. In most cases the creative project will be a group activity aligned with a research project of the School, but with permission, students may also undertake individual projects.

Indicative Assessment
Assessment will include:
• a practice/research journal of the project (50%, 1500 words) [learning outcome 5] and
• one or more creative/professional applied research outcomes that are developed specifically to fit each project. The agreed criteria weighting will be documented in an individual learning contract and will be the basis, with the journal, of the final assessment of the project. [learning outcomes 1-4]

Workload
The course will require the equivalent of 130 hours of student time. Total supervised/contact time will not normally exceed 35 hours, however students may be expected to be working for up to 105 hours in an authentic/workplace environment.
