This course is a practical introduction to the Portuguese language. It is designed to develop basic listening, speaking, reading and writing skills at the novice level and to develop a knowledge and understanding of culture and traditions in Portuguese-speaking countries around the world.

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. While the use of Turnitin is not mandatory, the ANU highly recommends Turnitin is used by both teaching staff and students. Workload
4 contact hours per week comprising of 2 language tutorials of 1.5 hours each and 1 conversation tutorial. Students are expected to commit an additional 6 hours per week to independent study.
