Program Requirements
This program comprises four compulsory courses, each valued at 6 units.
LAWS8167 - Australian Migration Law
LAWS8168 - Australia’s Visa System
LAWS8169 - Visa Compliance, Cancellation & Review
LAWS8170 - Applied Migration Law
In order to successfully complete the program students must:
Meet the requirements outlined for each specific assessment & exam and;
Maintain a level of participation that is considered satisfactory throughout each course.
Assessment occurs throughout each course in the program.
As an adult learner the ANU expect students to take responsibility for their own preparation for, and study of, courses and coursework. It is recommended that students spend between 10 to 15 hours a week per course self-study.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must hold at least a three-year Bachelor degree or equivalent and if applicable meet the ANU English Language Admission Requirements for students.
Pathways
This is a fully online postgraduate program offered three times a year.
Teaching sessions begin in February (Summer session), May (Autumn session) and September (Winter session) each year. Each session is of 10 weeks duration.
LAWS8167 & LAWS8168 are co-requisites and both are pre-requisites for LAWS8169 & LAWS8170.
Students have up to 3 years limit to complete the Graduate Certificate in Australian Migration Law and Practice from first enrolment. Migration Law students can apply for a maximum of 6 months program leave at a time.

Employment Opportunities
Graduates of this program will be eligible to apply for registration as an Australian migration agent. Registered migration agents work in sole practices, in larger migration law firms, in government departments, NGOs and other private sector firms which provide immigration assistance.Learning Outcomes
1.Graduates of the Graduate Certificate in Australian Migration Law and Practice will have comprehensive knowledge of Australian migration legislation, jurisprudence and policy in order to provide updated migration advice to clients and other stakeholders as Registered Migration Agents or migration law specialists.
2. Graduates of the Graduate Certificate in Australian Migration Law and Practice will have the cognitive skills to:
review, analyse and apply knowledge of different visas, immigration policy and relevant jurisprudence to individual client case work to provide effective and relevant solutions and advice.
critically assess complex issues to define and solve problems arising from migration law or policy.
communicate complex legal concepts with a variety of stakeholders.
apply research effectively to prepare advice and solve problems caused by ambiguity complexity and unpredictability within Australian migration law and policy.
initiate, plan, implement and evaluate research to assess current and relevant information from a range of sources to assist in preparing migration advice.
3. Graduates of the Graduate Certificate in Australian Migration Law and Practice will demonstrate their application of knowledge and skills by their ability to:
apply research in migration legislation, case law and policy effectively to prepare advice and solve problems caused by the ambiguity, complexity and unpredictability within Australian migration law and policy.
cultivate ethical and professional standards, including effective decision making, duty of care, informed consent and the nature of independent advice in practice.
plan, organise and facilitate professional and effective migration services.
design and implement personal and professional development plan
apply the principles of the Code of Conduct for Migration Agents to all facets of professional work that involves advice and engagement with clients.
