An overview of major prose works from Germany, Austria and Switzerland, written during the last century. Authors are likley to include Kafka, Böll, and Ingeborg Bachmann, but also a contemporary text, incl. Turkish-German literature. Aspects of literary history and theory, as well as the social context of the works will be discussed.

Indicative Assessment

Workload
2.5 contact hours/week (weekly lecture and tutorial; fortnightly seminar). Beyond that, time spent will depend very much on students' reading speed in German, but no long texts (e.g. full-length novels) are prescribed.Requisite and Incompatibility
