This course introduces students to basic concepts in differential geometry and topology.

Learning Outcomes

On satisfying the requirements of this course, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
1. Explain the fundamental concepts of the differential geometry and topology of curves and surfaces.
2. Demonstrate accurate and effective use of fundamental techniques of differential geometry and topology.
3. Acquire geometrical problem-solving and analysis skills which may be applied to diverse situations in mathematics, physics, and engineering.

Indicative Assessment

Biweekly problems sets worth a total of 40% of the final mark (LO 1,2,3). A midterm and final exam, worth 25% and 35% of the final mark, respectively (LO 1,2,3).

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. While the use of Turnitin is not mandatory, the ANU highly recommends Turnitin is used by both teaching staff and students. For additional information regarding Turnitin please visit the ANU Online website.

3 hours of lectures per week, and addtional 6 hours per week outside class time.
