This course offers an opportunity for students to focus on specific glass working techniques through an intensive delivery and in-depth approach to skill acquisition and ideas development. Technical demonstrations, lectures and hands on classes introduce new techniques and thematic issues relevant to a glass practice. Each student's original exploration is supported through group discussions and tutorials. Students develop a short work proposal to frame their material investigation and highlight their growing understanding of the contextual and conceptual underpinnings of their projects. Workplace health and safety (WHS) instruction is integrated throughout the syllabus.
This is a topic-based course that alternates over two years (odd and even years). In odd years the class will focus on Volume & Form. In even years the class will focus on Image & Pattern.

Workload
Intensive mode - 130 hours of total student learning time made up from:- 40 hours of contact: Five days of 7-hour intensive classes plus five 1-hour critiques and seminar discussions.
- 90 hours of independent work, including research and studio practice.
