This course provides outstanding field-based visual art engagement opportunities with the Bundian Way, a shared history pathway of Aboriginal origin between the Snowy Mountains and Twofold Bay. It offers supervised camping-based field trips that provide primary research opportunities to inform artwork and related studio development. Informed individuals, representatives and artists from the local Aboriginal communities are available to enhance student understanding of cultural relationships with country. Field research and tutorial sessions inform the secondary studio development of a folio of artwork. Field trips enable the collection and synthesis of materials and visual imagery as well as the location for undertaking site-specific work.

- Develop practice-led methodologies through investigation, analysis and synthesis of complex information to plan and execute a substantial, creative field-generated research project.
- Generate and evaluate complex ideas and concepts at an abstract level using cognitive, technical and creative skills and relate them to their own creative works and to recent developments in the field.
- Critically reflect upon and evaluate theoretical, conceptual and aesthetic aspects of creative practice and associated social, cultural and environmental issues. Apply this to the production of creative works.
- Design and develop creative works that communicate theoretical, aesthetic, conceptual and imaginative propositions to specialist and non-specialist audiences.

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. 14 day intensive, including 5 day excursion, combining formal instruction, self-directed field work and studio practice. 130 hours of total student learning time made up from:
a) 52 hours of contact: 5 day field trip, pre-field trip and post-field trip preparation/debriefing, and studio time.
b) 78 hours of independent studio practice and research.
As semester-long course:
4 hours of lectures, tutorials, critiques and self-directed field excursions per week for 13 weeks. Students are expected to commit a further 6 hours to independent studio practice each teaching week of the semester. Total 130 hours.
Requisite and Incompatibility
Assumed KnowledgeStudents will require a comprehensive understanding of visual arts studio materials, processes and equipment relevant to their approach to making.
