This course approaches cultural production in and about India with an eye to understanding key theoretical debates about the ethical and political work of culture. Through an exploration of Indian culture industries that have gained iconic status, such as Bollywood, yoga, and popular fiction, we will investigate how these forms negotiate questions of nation-making and global identity; religious identity and practice; gender, sexuality, and the body; and changing concepts of cultural property in a global marketplace.
The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. While the use of Turnitin is not mandatory, the ANU highly recommends Turnitin is used by both teaching staff and students.
