This is an advanced level language course. Students are expected to be able to read and engage in discussion of a variety of texts on contemporary social issues in China. Students will also learn to how translate from Chinese into English. Classes will be conducted mostly in Chinese.
Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:
The course is designed to train students to acquire Chinese language skills to an advanced level. At the end of it students should be able to read modern Chinese writings, listen to spoken Chinese and express themselves with a higher level of proficiency. Their knowledge of traditional Chinese culture will also be significantly extended.
Attendance (10%), Assignment (30%), mid-term exam (15%), oral exam (15%), final exam (30%).
The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. While the use of Turnitin is not mandatory, the ANU highly recommends Turnitin is used by both teaching staff and students.
