The course provides an introduction to the practical mastery of spoken Javanese. Tuition concentrates on developing spoken competence in the modern, everyday form of the language as spoken in the Yogyakarta-Solo region. This is accomplished through drills, practice in pairs or in small groups, and role-plays. Both ngoko (low) and krama (high) levels of discourse are practised. Classes are conducted in tutorial style.
