This course will give graduate students an opportunity to complete an extended and focused piece of written research on a musical topic. Topics will reflect the current research projects of the school and the wider community, and involve the development of skills in collaborative research.

- conceptualise, implement, and project manage a piece of original research on a musical topic;
- identify, locate, and access appropriate primary and secondary sources;
- analyse and synthesize data accurately drawing on at least one theory and using at least one research methodology;
- communicate findings using sophisticated language and a clear structure, and present these findings in a professional format; and
- work independently with minimal supervision.
Indicative Assessment
Oral presentation of research proposal (10%) [Learning Outcome 4]

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. Workload
One hour per week of contact with the supervisor, and nine hours per week of private study.
