This course covers issues associated with professional funds management. Topics include the funds management industry, superannuation, managed fund products, asset allocation, stock selection and performance measurement.
- Topic 1: Introduction (The nature of the funds management industry, super funds, unit trusts, and hedge funds: types, objectives and strategies, investor preferences)
- Topic 2: Portfolio Analysis (Fundamentals of portfolio analysis, pricing of securities: CAPM and APT)
- Topic 3: Asset Allocation (Asset allocation strategies, strategic and tactical asset allocation, asset mix management)
- Topic 4: Strategies (Stock selection, active/passive strategy, portfolio construction and optimisation, performance of strategy over time, examples of stock selection decisions, market timing: using futures and options in active portfolio management)
- Topic 5: Performance and Measurement (Performance measurement, evaluating investment strategies, risk adjusted performance, stock selection and market timing performance, appraising fund performance)

This course focuses on the management of funds such as superannuation. It provides students with an understanding of risk and return and portfolio constuction. Topics covered include CAPM, APT, convexity, immunisation, bond ratings,disciplined stock selection, managing asset mix, international investing, evaluating portfolio asset mix, IPOs, managing with options and technical analysis

Workload
