This course introduces strategy as a discipline and the frameworks used to conduct strategic analysis.
- It provides an overview of tools, techniques, and frameworks commonly used as part of market and industry assessments, on engagements involving substantial operational and organisational analysis.
- It highlights the principle financial analytical tools used to conduct strategic analysis and indicates the link between corporate strategy and performance through measurement frameworks used frequently to provide decision making information to management.
- It provides an overview of the concept of market segmentation and analytical approaches to segmentation and highlights the importance of understanding the subject industry and outlines approaches to industry analysis.
- It provides a deeper understanding of the current focus on customer driven strategies and outlines the frameworks used to support these strategies.
Topics include: thinking strategically, strategic analysis, operational analysis, financial analysis, performance improvement, product/market analysis, industry analysis, customer analysis, competitor analysis, supply chain assessment and balanced scorecard assessments.

Workload
Students are expected to commit at least 10 hours per week to completing the work in this course. This will include at least 3 contact hours per week and up to 7 hours of private study time.
