This course aims to extend the students' ability to communicate clearly, creatively and effectively both in spoken and written Spanish. The aim is to develop student capacity to use Spanish in unpredictable everyday situations and allow them to become independent learners. The course also introduces students to contemporary theatre and allows students to debate a wide variety of cultural and social issues in Spanish-speaking societies.

  1. Communicate effectively, creatively and confidently in novel situations such as discussions about about polemic topics;
  2. Demonstrate extensive command of a wide range of complex grammatical structures both orally and in writing;
  3. Participate actively in debates and present their points of view with precision;
  4. Reflect upon and express thoughts about cultural aspects of the Spanish-speaking world by researching the cultural and social contexts of texts and theatre plays
  5. Negotiate task division and contribution in a team environment. Evaluate peers' contribution to the team task.

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. Workload

130 hours of total student learning time made up from:
a) 42 hours of contact: 3.5 hours of class per week.
b) 88 hours of independent student research, reading and writing.

Requisite and Incompatibility

To enrol in this course you must have successfully completed SPAN6507 or have equivalent level of language proficiency as demonstrated by placement test. Alternatively you may gain permission of the Course Convener to enrol in this course. Incompatible with SPAN3012.
