Attention is given to the social and cultural context of language use.

All students with previous 'language experience or exposure' are required to take a language placement test to determine their language proficiency in order to ensure enrolment into the language course at the most appropriate level.

Students are also encouraged to consult their course convenors immediately upon if they find that their proficiency level differs from that expected by the course.
