This course provides outstanding field-based visual art engagement opportunities with the Bundian Way, a shared history pathway of Aboriginal origin between the Snowy Mountains and Twofold Bay. It offers supervised camping-based field trips that provide primary research opportunities to inform artwork and related studio development. Informed individuals, representatives and artists from the local Aboriginal communities are available to enhance student understanding of cultural relationships with country. Field research and tutorial sessions inform the secondary studio development of a folio of artwork. Field trips enable the collection and synthesis of materials and visual imagery as well as the location for undertaking site-specific work.

- Develop a basic method for field-based enquiry based on observations made in the field and create a body of artwork that reflects this methodology.
- Demonstrate a basic capacity to apply creative processes in the field and studio, to primary research materials collected.
- Reflect critically on their own work and articulate their key concerns and reference points.
- Show basic awareness of the environmental, cultural and social issues informing field research and associated creative processes.

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. WorkloadSemester length delivery - 130 hours of total student learning time made up from: a) 48 hours of contact over 12 weeks: lectures, tutorials, critiques and supervised studio practice; and b) 82 hours of independent studio practice, reading and writing. Intensive delivery - 130 hours of total student learning time made up from: a) 52 hours of contact: lectures and tutorials, delivered intensively over 14 days, inclusive of a 5 day field trip; and b) 78 hours of independent studio practice, reading and writing.
Requisite and Incompatibility
Assumed KnowledgeSome basic knowledge of visual arts processes such as drawing, painting, photography, assemblage, installation or video would be an advantage. Recommended courses ARTV1020, ARTV1021, ARTV1022 or any visual arts electives offered by the ANU School of Art.
