This is an intermediate level Chinese language course, following on from Modern Chinese 3.  This course is designed to cover the remaining essential grammatical points of Modern Chinese language before moving on to a higher-intermediate level which will focus on the written style.  This course will help students to enlarge their vocabulary to the 2,500 words level, which will further raise students' linguistic competence in reading, writing, listening and speaking in modern Chinese. It aims at laying a solid foundation for more advanced Chinese language study in the third year and beyond.

In addition to the coverage of the textbook, the course will also utilize other textual and audio / visual materials so that students can learn more about aspects of Chinese culture, history, and society.

Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills to:

  1. Apply the remaining essential grammatical structures of Modern Chinese.
  2. Further enlarge their vocabulary to about 2,500 (include those learned in the first year)
  3. Confidently use the language to conduct conversations on everyday topics.
  4. Competently read and listen to more sophisticated texts on topics related to the textbook.
  5. Distinguish features of written Chinese which is different from their oral counterpart.
  6. Learn more about aspects of Chinese culture and society.

The ANU uses Turnitin to enhance student citation and referencing techniques, and to assess assignment submissions as a component of the University's approach to managing Academic Integrity. Requisite and Incompatibility

To enrol in this course you must have completed CHIN6520 or equivalent. You may not enrol in this course if you have previously completed CHIN3021.
