This course develops a contemporary analytical understanding of current trends and issues in new media art. Through lectures, screenings, directed reading and excursions it will examine the issues currently affecting the role of creative digital art works in the arts, the sciences and society at large. The course will allow students to reflect on their own creative practice, in the context of contemporary digital art, and develop their research skills through researching, analysing and evaluating creative works in contemporary context, and in relation to their own creative work. By participating in weekly seminars and undertaking assessment items throughout the Semester, students will develop critical skills in relation to their own work and the work of others.

- Identify key aspects of historical and contemporary new media art.
- Analyse creative media works and the context in which these are displayed in relation to their own media practice.
- Demonstrate critical analysis in a reasoned, referenced, and clearly structured analysis in both written and audio-visual forms.
